Christmas mantel

I finally finished my Christmas mantel and wanted to share that today. I think of our mantel as a shadow box since there is so little mantel and it is a large recessed area.   I was able to find quite a few thrifty things to decorate my mantel and also used items that I already had. There is so much pretty christmas decor all over the blogs right now and I am just getting started. So I have some catching up to do.

I started with my tall apothecary jars that I bought recently. I'm always looking for items that have multiple uses and I really like the versatility of these. I looked around the thrift and craft stores and  found these cute and cheap  wood reindeer and the mercury glass votives. That's basically what I started with so I went from there. I added some glitter to some ornaments for the jars and painted the reindeer gold to go with my mirror.

I added some silver glitter collars to the reindeer and some wood trees that I already had. The little houses came from Dollar tree and I painted them white and added glitter. Also the wreath is garland rolled up from the dollar tree as well. I made a banner for the wreath and added some faux greenery that I already had.

I didn't have any bottle brush trees so I made some by wrapping bulky yarn around some cones and adding some glitter. Having a yarn stash can come in handy!

I have quite a collection of Christmas stamps so I had to make a banner for the front of my mantel. I created a collage to show the detail of it. I enjoy adding papercraft items to my decor and it gives me a chance to create with  stamps that I haven't used in awhile. I layered white cardstock stamped and embossed with silver  onto silver glitter paper to give a finished edge.

I added some small flameless candles and some white lights to the greenery. I love the soft glow of white lights.

The votives give off a pretty glow with flameless candles.

I already had the little reindeer bag and it matches my other reindeer. I enjoy the simplicity of little things.

I should have smoothed out this greenery...it does look a bit wild, but I wanted to show another pic with the lights.

I added a basket with more glittered ornaments and pine cones.

A mini christmas tree light

I softened this image to give it a nice glow

I better get busy, lots more to do.  Thanks for stopping by. I hope you'll take time to leave a comment!

  2. Diane your mantel is fabulous! Where do I start?
Down to the smallest detail you went all out! Love the glitter collars on the deer. Certainly does add a "wow factor" to their stance. And the banner looks so sophisticated with the gold and silver glitter. You did great in putting this together!
